Prominent Kampala city businessman Godfrey Kirumira also the Namibian honorary consul to Uganda has been dragged into fraudulent sale of the Democratic Party (DP) multimillion printing machine, the Blazer News Times can exclusively report.
Highly placed sources in DP told this Website that the printer had cost the party hard earned 450 million shillings to procure it for its operations, part of which was the government funding allocated to the political parties through Electoral Commission for their growth. However, later it emerged that it went missing.
This Website has learnt from insiders that the printer was fraudulently sold by the businessman at a tune of more than 200 million shillings.
It is alleged that Kirumira had sold the printer to one Congolese national who is apparently operating it and enjoying its proceeds in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to DP members who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity, the machine was allegedly sold in connivance with some senior party officials; Herbert Rutagwera (organizing secretary) and others.
Sources say that Kirumira had auctioned the political party’s multimillion machine at relatively lower cost disguising under the alleged failure by DP to clear the said accumulated rental arrears for the space where it was being operated at Mirembe Arcade- Nasser road, one of his buildings.
The sale of this machine has ever since triggered serious concern among some party members, describing the deal as having been fraudulently executed with ulterior motive of causing the party financial loss.
They now want the anti-corruption watchdog Inspector General of Government (IGG) to immediately intervene that everyone involved takes responsibility and be held to account.
Attempt by the Blazer News Times to seek response from Kirumira was however, fruitless as he could not answer to our calls.
Our team made extra effort to seek his comment through one of his personal assistants Jibreal Kuteesa but also in vain. He said, his boss was out of the country by the time we reached out but promising to get back to us as soon as he returned back which is yet to happen.
