Uganda’s government has allocated Shs 5.87 trillion to the health sector in the 2025/26 national budget — nearly double last year’s funding of Shs 2.95 trillion.
The budget shift reflects growing urgency amid increased disease burdens, donor funding shortfalls, and rising demands for better medical infrastructure. Key areas earmarked for investment include hospital upgrades, better staffing (especially lower-level health centres), ICU and cancer units, maternal health services, and essential medicines procurement.
