On 15th December, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi Kabaka’s convoy was seen around the Kabaka’njagala road in Lubaga municipality driving to his Mmengo palace office where he usually performs his official Buganda kingdom duties.
This was around the same time the National Unity Platform (NUP) president Bobi had set out to pay a courtesy visit to the Buganda kingdom prime minister Charles Peter Mayiga at the kingdom’s administrative seat in Bulange Mmengo, ahead of his presidential campaign in Lubaga later in the day.
In ensuring the observation of law and order, there was heavy deployment as usual of the state security personnel; police and the military. In carrying out this duty, some roads in the municipality including the Kabaka’njagala were seen with security blockades restrictng movements in the build up of the main opposition party leader’s planned activities.
In the course of this, the Kabaka’s convoy was seen temporarily stuck and blocked in the junction connecting his usual passage leading to the palace and Lubaga road from Bulange by the police vehicle that had earlier been parked across the road.
At that junction there is a roundabout establishment of a magnificent long cultural drum (Engalabi- Nantawetwa) with a straight way through in between for norms and culture as when there is a need.
Highly placed sources close to the Mmengo officials told Blazer News Times that the security blockage of the king’s convoy was an affront to the king’s honor, sparking serious internal concerns.
According to sources, the nomenclature of Kabaka’njagala road to the monarch’s title carries a lot of meaning to the ganda culture, before explaining why there is a reserved middle walk through for the king.
It is one of the reasons informing the king’s expression of displeasure with the highhanded acts by the state as contained in his 2025 Christmas message to his subjects, according to sources.
Kabaka Slams Electoral Commission Over Biasness.
In his Christmas message to his subjects, Kabaka Mutebi observed a growing pattern of danger occasioned on Ugandans in form of flogging, blocking candidates from accessing designate campaign venues to address voters with other acts of lawlessness and human rights violations.
It is against that background that he challenged the EC to prevail upon such trends as opposed to its empty rhetoric without taking sides.
“Our EC colleagues, we request that you don’t merely condemn this, but help every candidate without showing bias to deliver their message to the elector without restricting or torturing people” Kabaka’s message reads in part.
The king also decried the growing monetization of politics in ongoing campaigns for 2026 polls, questioning the source of funds for such expense.
“Election of leaders through that method brings incompetent people in leadership positions who first recoup their political investment. This is the root cause for kleptocracy and our nation’s under development, that’s why we encourage you to vote wisely”.
Regarding food security, the king urged government to help with distribution of irrigation equipment to the population especially around water sources, in aversion of disastrous hunger, from long dry spells, before he could encourage to his subjects to consider preservation of dry food.
He further decried the renewed acts of human sacrifice, citing the machete attacks on civilians in some communities, calling upon the security agencies to tighten the grip against the perpetrators.
