The founding father for the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) mzee Kintu Musoke wants his grave to be painted with marks ascertaining that he is its founding father.

This was revealed by mzee Musoke during his interaction with a team of the UJA leaders who had paid a courtesy visit to him in at his home in Kalungu Bakijjulura- Masaka sub region recently.

UJA leaders included the president Mathias Rukundo, secretary general Emmanuel Kirunda and Issa Kigongo- secretary for external relations.

Mzee Musoke recalled how an idea that resulted into birth of the Uganda journalist body was conceived, saying they had gone to attend an African Union of Journalists Conference in Ghana’s capital Accra, that had been hosted by the late president Kwame Nkrumah.

Having been invited as individuals, Musoke who was a journalist with African Pilot said, he got embarrassed with his colleague Binaisa who was a journalist with Uganda Argus to attend the conference as individuals given that journalists from other countries had attended under their umbrella bodies, and therefore decided to register as members of non-existent Uganda Journalists Association (UJA).

He explained that the association was registered on return and he was elected UJA at the first assembly at Uganda Club.

Musoke told his guests that he was holding UJA so dear, that is why writings portraying him as its founding father should feature on his grave. He encouraged youthful journalists to treat as a priority loving their country.

The visiting UJA team appreciated his indelible founding role that has turned out to be impactful to the country’s journalism landscape

Musoke, is a former Prime Minister of Uganda (1994–1999), while Binaisa was a son of the late Godfrey Binaisa, former President of Uganda (20 June 1979 – 12 May 1980).
