Since the beginning of this year, state foreign affairs minister Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo and prominent musician also former MP for Kakuuto county in Kyotera district Geoffrey Lutaaya, have been in a bitter row, arising from the disputed January 15, 20226 election outcome that saw Ismail Lubega Kaka (NRM) declared the winner over incumbent Lutaaya (NUP).
The musician turned politician publicly accused minister Kasolo who is also the ruling NRM party’s chairperson for Buganda region where Kakuuto falls, of masterminding a plot that culminated into the rig out of his victory based on falsified declared results by the district Electoral Commission (EC) officials, which Kasolo denied.
Lutaaya also pinned Kasolo for having used one of his bouncers to forcefully grab their election Declaration Result Forms (DR Forms) from his polling agent Jude Ssali while at Kyotera EC office premises after being subjected to violence at the watch of the Uganda security personnel, vowing to challenge the outcome in Court using the available evidence.
However, it has now emerged from reliable sources close to minister Kasolo that he has ever since moved to consider using a negotiation strategy to neutralize Lutaaya’s expanding venom.
“There are ongoing talks between minister Kasolo and Geoffrey Lutaaya”, one of the sources confirmed to Blazer News Times on condition of anonymity.
According to sources, the said minister Kasolo’s bankrolled talks with his nemesis Lutaaya are being steered by the influential area muslim faith and catholic church clerics.
Sources claim that the said negotiation’s end goal is to cause Lutaaya appreciate to reach a compromise with Kasolo to let the bygones be bygones.
“He wants to sort him out for this political term” Said a source.
Efforts to secure comments from Lutaaya and Kasolo were futile by the time this news report was compiled.
Earlier, Lutaaya’s lawyers Abubaker Sekanjako and Joseph Bazzekketa had accused the area EC Returning Officer of using falsified results to declare the NRM’s candidate Kaka the winner, an act they would interest Court to inquire into, thus moving it to revoke it by declaring their client the winner.
“EC declared a loser the winner. Votes at specific polling stations whose results were not considered are more than 900, yet the fictitious winning margin is of 685 votes. Had EC considered votes from those results, Lutaaya would have won the election”, lawyers insisted.
