A well-orchestrated plan has been laid down by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders to capture the Kawempe South and North parliamentary seats in 2026 elections, Blazer News Times has exclusively established.
According to the highly placed sources in NRM party, this plan which is aimed at driving the NRM’s Hajjat Madinah Nsereko (Kawempe South) and Hajjat Faridah Nambi (Kawempe North) to parliament, is arising out of the flopped plan during the March 13, 2025 Kawempe North parliamentary by election.
The Kawempe North parliamentary by election was marred by violence and brutality against journalists and electors by the security forces. It was also riddled by the electoral mal practices including destruction of the ballot papers, which sparked condemnation from the local and international human rights advocates.
Now it has emerged from the sources that, to ensure that the two constituencies fall to the ruling party’s pocket, an engagement between some senior party members (whose names withheld) and Electoral Commission (EC) officers (whose names also withheld), was held recently.
As part of the master plan according to sources, the commission must ensure that the yellow party MP candidates possibly secures victory.
Kawempe South is currently represented in the 11th parliament by Bashir Mbaziira Kazibwe (NUP) while North, by Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola (NUP).
Bobi Wine’s elder brother Fred Sentamu Nyanzi is the official NUP party candidate in the 2026 Kawempe South, where as Nalukoola was handed back the flag for Kawempe North.
Besides NRM candidate, Nyanzi is facing competition from other candidates including among others; Dr. Roy Ssembogga (Independent), Muhammad Nsubuga(independent) and Thomas Bagonza (National Peasants Party-NPP).
However, our efforts to seek a comment from the EC’s spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi were futile as he couldn’t respond by the time this story was published.
