In the near future, the Democratic Party (DP) Electoral Commission chairperson Kennedy Mutenyo will not be occupying this office, he has been relieved off his duties, Blazer News Times can exclusively report.
This meeting according to insiders was aimed at discussing the usual election committee member affairs relating to the facilitation of electoral activities for DP candidates on parliamentary and local government seats in the January 15, 2026 elections.
Mutenyo, according to insiders has been one of the select committee members in charge of its communication. Other committee members include Gerald Siranda-secretary general, Herbert Rutagwera-organizing secretary, Dr. Kiwanuka Mayambala- national chairperson, among others.
It has emerged that when the committee members had convened, Siranda immediately pulled out his draft letter that he himself handed over to the principled Mutenyo, instantly terminating his work, throwing the planned meeting into a premature end.
Sources told this Website that after handing over the termination letter to Mutenyo, Siranda who faces sharp accusations from some party cadres of mismanaging the secretariat, picked cash from his own pocket as a thank you to the sacked DP EC boss for all the work he has done.
Mutenyo has been a dedicated diehard of the DP president general Nobert Mao and his regime, reflected by his frequency to various media platforms while defending his leadership decisions, including the controversial Cooperation Agreement that threw the 2nd oldest party on African continent in sharp division.
Under the said Cooperation Agreement, DP enjoys mutual working relationship with the ruling NRM party. It under the said arrangement that the DP president general Nobert Mao was appointed the justice and constitutional affairs minister in president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s government.
Passionately speaking as and when there is a matter concerning the oldest party in Uganda on the floor, and a proudly confessing DP stalwart, Mutenyo’s name peaked the media in the May-June 2025 when he manned the chaotic DP Delegates Conference (DC) at Asama Hotel in Mbarara, that was marred with claims of electoral mal practices, including alleged rigging, disfranchising voters and ballot stuffing.
In that DC, Nobert Mao and his current regime were reelected through a hotly contested process that saw his closet challenger MP Richard Sebamala with some of his camp aspirants, ejected from the race over claims of being in eligible, paving way for them to sail through.
His sacking has sparked concerns of intrigue and hypocrisy among some DP members, accusing Siranda and Mao of being easily forgetful of the man who has time and again laid down his back for them during tough times.
When reached out for a comment, Mutenyo denied knowledge of the reported sacking, saying he was not aware. “I am not aware of the development you are referring to. Please share with me any such evidence of the same”, He replied.
Mutenyo promised to fully reply if he was furnished with what he called evidence. “After receiving your written evidence, I will be able to respond. For now, I am not aware”, He stated.
However, our efforts to seek a comment from Siranda were futile as he couldn’t pick our calls by the time this news report was compiled.
