File: Left-Right is Oboth and Mao

NRM party chairperson also the Ugandan president Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is said to be furious about what has come to be understood as a well-orchestrated grand scheme under which the West Budama County South MP Markson Jacob Oboth- Oboth declared as the ruling party official candidate for the 12th parliament speakership seat, following a fall out of the outgoing speaker Annet Anita Among with the top party leadership.

Reliable sources in the corridors of state power have exclusively told Blazer News Times that the president’s frustration was expressed during the meeting held over the weekend at the State House Entebbe, aimed at concluding the party’s discussion on viability of backing Nobert Mao for the speakership seat come 25th May.

The said high level meeting which was a resumption of the one held during the week ending Sunday May 17th , was chaired by Gen. Museveni according to reliable sources. Notable figures that attended the said meeting include among others, the NRM party vice chairperson Hajj Moses Kigongo, Gen. Salim Saleh, a Bishop from Northern Uganda, Mao and others.

It has emerged from the sources that during the earlier meeting, there was change of thought by some members of the ruling class wishing that Mao be appointed the vice president in the next cabinet, while others still buying into an original idea of backing him to be elected the next parliament speaker.

According to the sources, Mao who had earlier declared his bid for the speakership against now the outgoing speaker Anita Among, was reluctant to take up the vice president offer, prompting an extension of the meeting discussion until such a time when they resume while he has made up his mind about it, and inform the meeting.

Sources allege that before the next meeting was held to conclude the discussion, there were some power brokers that swiftly reached out to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) top leadership with a compelling proposal, convincing them why it was essential for them to opt for Oboth -Oboth sell out as the PLU-NRM candidate for the head of legislature job.

In the previous months several PLU supporters close to the top bosses had been seen on X- platform touting Nobert Mao as the potential viable candidate for the job, following serious allegation of corruption scandals by the ruling party candidate Among, while other seen in the pictorial light moments making reflections together.

It has also emerged from the sources that, reports indicating how Oboth-Oboth would be endorsed as the PLU leaning- NRM candidate for the speakership had started to go viral before the meeting was held, raising stakes and concerns among some stake holders that were part of the said discussions.

According to the sources, statement was released by the PLU leaders endorsing Oboth-Oboth as their official candidate pending president Museveni’s final declaration. This according to the sources culminated into the Mukono Oboth residential home meeting with some NRM- PLU MPS through which they echoed their position.

The said Mukono meeting is also said to have born a dispute between Among and the PLU team, resulting into immediate arrest of her controversial tout girl Justine Nameere on Friday before she could be released.

Sources further say that the Mukono outcome meeting is never a welcome move by the president, thus left him irritated to the point of summoning and grilling some of its orchestras.

Speaking during the CBS 888 radio May Monday 18th news interview, the NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo however, clarified that the party is yet to nominate any official candidate since it has not held primary elections for speakership and deputy speakership seats.

The president’s and some other NRA/NRM Historicals frustration according to the sources is a bolster to Mao’s bid, while to PLU drivers is an open chance for their pressure group to shine especially during this tenure in political transition is highly anticipated.
