The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag bearer for 2026 Kawempe South parliamentary seat Hajjat Madinah Nsereko has broken silence, defending herself over the accusations of plotting to rig the election that are placed on her.
Hajjat Madina Nsereko’s response stems from the November 25, breaking exclusive story by this Website, showing a leaked plan by her party to grab the Kawempe South and North constituencies respectively, come 2026 election.
In that news article it was reported from insiders that, a high-level engagement between some senior party members and Electoral Commission (EC) officers was held recently to ensure that the two constituencies fall to the ruling party’s pocket.
Insiders had told Blazer News Times that as part of the designed master plan, Madina Nsereko was to possibly be announced the winner by the commission, which she has now come out to deny.
It had also emerged from the reliable sources that another area NRM party candidate at the level of local government (names withheld), upon becoming privy to the developments, had swiftly made an attempt shortly after to accost one senior elections officer in Kawempe, pleading with that officer to also consider factoring him into the equation, but told off to go back down to the field and look for the votes if he wishes to be declared the winner.
We had made efforts to reach out the commission’s spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi for a comment regarding this news report but he could not reply to our messages.
In an exclusive interview with this Website, Nsereko however, distanced herself self from the claims, saying there is no such intention from her yellow camp. “I did not rig the election previously when my neighbor was the Returning Officer, then how will I rig it with the current one who is not known to me,” She questioned.
Without pointing out to any specific name and gender, the NRM party MP flag bearer for Kawempe South described the source of our published news report as someone who is mentally ill that should be taken to the hospital for treatment.
“How do I know the election managers. I even don’t know who is going to announce the results’’, Nsereko further questioned.
Nsereko claimed that she is holding the ground politically, that is why the information implicating her is coming up now. “They are just worried because I have the ground. If that person isn’t mentally ill, they must be stuck in the campaign”, She stated.
Electoral History of Kawempe South.
Elections records shows that since the promulgation of the Uganda’s constitution in 1995, the NRM party has had only one MP late Med Kaggwa, representing the mainly dominated Muslim constituency for only one term (1996- 2001), before he was edged out by the opposition Democratic Party (DP).
DP’s Richard Muddu Awulira Ssebuliba, replaced Kaggwa and represented the area for 15 years since 2001 to 2016 when it was taken over by the opposition FDC party under Mubarak Munyagwa. Munyagwa also served for only five years (2016-2021) when he was removed by the NUP under Bashir Mbaziira Kazibwe (2021-2026).
Kazibwe whose performance in parliament was un precedentially very poor, did not seek reelection. His decision not to return is linked to his poor performance.
The once popular broadcast journalist also had frost relations with the Uganda Journalists Association constituency that had elected him its president, his Kawempe South constituents to whom he never reported back upon election to the august house, and his NUP party leadership.
Whether the NRM party can take over Kawempe South from the dominating opposition forces through a free and fair election is for a test of time.
