    Kampala Lord Mayoral Race: Preminarly Results Put Balimwezo in an Early Lead, Incumbent Lukwago is Trailing.

    January 22nd mayoral and local government leaders’ election have been concluded and vote counting is under away.

    In the Uganda’s capital Kampala, the lord mayoral tight race is between the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Eng. Ronald Balimwezo and the Peoples Front for Freedom (PFF) party lawyer Erias Lukwago.

    Preliminary results that have been announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) Returning Officers at Polling Stations from different divisions of Kampala put Balimwezo in an early lead against incumbent lord mayor Lukwago.  

    Kampala is city is made up of five division including; Kampala Central, Lubaga, Nakawa, Kawempe and Makindye.

    By the time this report was compiled Initial results from some Polling Stations in Lubaga which is Lukwago’s home base, Nakawa (Balimwezo’s home ground) and Kawempe left Lukwago trailing Balimwezo who was largely leading with a bigger margin, although the voter turnout was very low in this election.

    This low voter turnout according to the voters this Website spoke to sparked by the subversion of their will during the January 15, 2026 presidential and parliamentary election that saw incumbent Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (NRM) with several NRM MPs being declared the winners.

    He was racing against seven other candidates including his main challenger Bobi Wine (NUP) who has ever since opposed the election results as falsified and fake.

    The Kampala lord mayoral race attracted other candidates including Beatrice Nambi Mao (DP), Ibrahim Kasozi (FDC), Moses Kizito Nsubuga (NRM), Independent candidate Eddy Bazira, Independent Nabilah Naggayi Ssempala and Jothan Yamureebire Burobuto -Independent.

    Incumbent Lukwago has been at the helm of the city since 2011, spanning a reign of 15 years at the city hall.
