Trouble Again: Mathias Mpuuga Named in Another Service Award Scandal.

By Gladys Mukisa Wednesday 5 November 2025.

Commissioner of Parliament also the Nyendo Mukungwe Member of Parliament (MP) Mathias Mpuuga has been implicated in yet another cash bonanza that saw him receiving another 400 million shillings service award.

This is according to the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in parliament Joel Besekezi Ssenyonyi. Ssenyonyi alleges that these 400 million were paid to Mpuuga through parliamentary Sacco for avoidance of the paper trail, contrary to 2022 during the first share.

According to Ssenyonyi, the whooping 400 million was paid to Mpuuga to see him off the 2026 elections. He alleges that he was with three other Parliament Commissioners; Esther Afoyochan, Prossy Akampulira and Solomon Sirwanyi, bringing the total amount of their share to 1.6 billion.

He recalled that the four Commissioners were in 2022 implicated in a similar service award scandal, amounting to Shs1.7 billion. Mpuuga received Shs 500 million while the other three Commissioners Shs400 million each.

The Nakawa West legislator boasted that when they spoke about the first service award, the recipients first denied but only later to acknowledge having received the money.

Ssenyonyi’s insisted that like in previous cases, the current claims will likely be denied, but the truth will at last come out.

He accused the Commissioners of attempting to divert what he calls the truth through their hired allies by falsely claiming that he had also benefited from the alleged service award (650 million), insisting that it was intended to be a cover up for this second service award that the commissioners gave themselves.

Mpuuga who is also the Democratic Front (DF) president is yet to respond to Ssenyonyi’s allegations. However, one of his fellow Commissioners Solomon Sirwanyi dismissed the claims as false.
