Things are not well with the Democratic Party (DP) Secretary General Gerald Blacks Siranda who recently declared his support withdrawn regarding the hotly contested speakership seat from his time long vying party president Nobert Mao to his main contender incumbent speaker Anita Among.
The news coming in to our desk is that the man from Palisa is considering to throw in the towel following the mounting internal pressure from some party members, castigating his gesture that caught several by surprise, as an act of betrayal not any different from that one by Judas Iscariot of the Bible- Matthew 26:14-.
Last week while addressing mourners in Buyende- Busoga sub region at a ceremony that also saw the speaker Among in attendance, Siranda who is seeking re election to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), publicly assured a gathering that Among is the speaker and will be once again be the speaker, before he could rule out the prevailing beef and competition between the two.
“I don’t know how many times you have been there in every aspect of life, and for me the right honorable speaker is the speaker and she is going to be the speaker”. Owing to his gesture, an immediate internal discontent was sparked among some staunch DP members who kept referring to him as un grateful traitor, which has ever since prompted him to equally push back with resignation threats.
Referring to the current developments, Insiders have exclusively told this news Website that Siranda has since then while defending his action before some members, wondered why he was being chided by other green party members as a traitor, saying he is considering to leave the party by walking away.
Siranda, according to insiders, vowed never to step his feet in any DP high level meeting until the speakership election has been concluded in May. It has also emerged that the head of the second oldest party in Africa secretariat will appear in any official party press related activity until such a time when tempers have cooled down.
Other sources said that by his consideration to resign, he may end up getting unveiled at plot 10 Kyaddondo as a calculation to automatically shield his EALA parliamentary interests.
Earlier, some DP members had while speaking on condition of anonymity confirmed to Blazer News Times that, before heading to Buyende, Siranda had started his day at Mao’s home where he had gone seeking financial assistance from his party boss to help him navigate his current financial hardships.
After crying out to his boss that he had patients that needed an urgent medical intervention according to insiders, Mao magnanimously made a 6 million Ugx intervention to his said predicament, although this could not save him from getting denied by one of his right-hand man.
It should be noted that Siranda belonged to the UPC before crossing to DP where he meteorically rose in ranks from being the party youth league leader to deputy secretary general, secretary general and an EALA representative.
His name featured largely in the DP-NRM signed Cooperation Agreement aimed at cessation of hostile politics play to foster a peaceful transfer of power. Upon signing this said deal with president Museveni at the state house in Entebbe, Siranda was there with Mao alone of all the party cadres which to some was enormous trust and hope that Mao had in him.
