Mao’s time long grown confidence with gained inspiration to certainly scoop the legislative top seat from then potential incumbent speaker Anita Among, banking on his cordial relationship with the deep state members, his DP political cooperation agreement with the ruling NRM party and NRA Historicals, was incidentally ended barely a week to the May 25th 2026 final speakership election, following sudden endorsement of Jacob Oboth -Oboth the man who had never shown interest to the speakership from onset.
Oboth’s emergency ensued after the blockage of incumbent Among whom the state authorities claimed had cases to answer relating to her political, although political observers say it was a due to her growing political threat against the deep state future survival interests.
His latest race entry simply spoke only to the gear shifting of the game calculation, culminating into frustration of the Laroo Pece MP to the point of being left with one option, bowing out, which he however disregarded eventually.
He despite all that, faced off with the majority party’s endorsed candidate whose eventual ballot vote score line stood at 441, second opposition runner up Paul Mwiiru 60, while Mao 15 votes according to the presiding parliament clerk Adolf Mwesigye.
Frustrated and disappointed, his resolve was however left un broken but more re energized to the point of now emerging with a new strategy according to the sources close to him.
Sources say that as his fallback Plan B, the Democratic Party (DP) president general will possibly improvise his good oratory arsenal on the parliamentary floor aimed at sending the ruling government in persistent shock waves, focused on unraveling issues affecting the common man, despite being a minister in president Museveni’s cabinet.
With such according to sources, he will be double edged, gaining more clout from the masses, thus remaining more relevant politically according to sources.
Mao’s said strategy may not only disturb the majority party in the parliament but also the minority opposition MPs should they fail to up their quality to keep the government check according to the sources.
Mao Vows Never to Retreat from His Independent Mindedness.
Delivering a key note address during the outgoing Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) country director Anna Reisman’s farewell on Thursday June 4th in Kampala, Mao maintained never to apologize to anybody over his decision, saying he believes in thinking for himself.

Mao firmly stated that the ruling NRM’s night mare is losing to NUP simply because a foundation has not been laid.
“if you want to know why we should build the guard rails around the middle it is the fear of the people you disagree with either political groups or even tribes so that we banish forever those phrases like make sure those Baganda do have numbers. That is not a sign power but a sign of fear”.
The Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister vowed never to abandon at any time his desire focused on restoring the presidential term limits scrapped from the Uganda’s constitution.

Mao further committed on holding to his path aimed at delivering Uganda to the peaceful transfer of power from Museveni to yet another leader.
