Bugiri Municipality MP also the Justice Forum (JEEMA) president Asuman Basalirwa has broken silence over the claims by the National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Bobi Wine that he is a slave boy lifting the bag for the Uganda parliament speaker also the NRM party CEC second vice chairperson Annet Anita Among.
Addressing a massive campaign gathering of Basalirwa’s constituents in Bugiri Municipality during his presidential campaign trail in Busoga region earlier October, Bobi Wine accused Basalirwa of betraying their opposition struggle when he chose to turn into Anita Among’s bag boy, requesting his electors to use the January 14, 2026 election to democratically replace him with another representative who will resonate with their interests and the opposition.
Bobi Wine who did not have any kind for the ruling NRM government actors, said he was no longer understanding Basalirwa, boasting that had it not been his popular support for him through a bye election, he would not have been elected through as the area MP, since he had made several failed attempts previously.
However, speaking from the CBS Radio 888 Saturday Parliament Yaffe Talk Show, Basalirwa refuted Bobi Wine’s claims that he was Among’s bag lifter.
The Bugiri Municipality legislator clarified that he is a practicing lawyer with a law firm whose objective is to provide professional legal services to any hiring clients, saying Anita Among was just a client to his law firm as the case with other lawyers in town.
The audibly speaking Basalirwa who was appearing together with NUP’s Kawempe North MP also a High Court advocate Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola and other NRM party figures, said, he did not have any regret for having been the speaker’s private lawyer, which any practicing advocate would be proud of including Nalukoola, if such opportunity came.
Without mincing his words, he insisted that there is no way he could have suppressed his commercial legal professional job at the expanse of being an MP which found him already a lawyer.
Basalirwa was deliberating on NUP’s changed stance to be admitted back to the IPOD framework which they had earlier stayed away from on grounds that it had lost its core meaning, as a topic.
He committed to further advocate for re admission of NUP back to the framework despite what he called them tainting his name before his constituents.
In a rebut, Nalukoola defended his president Bobi Wine, saying he did not taint Basalirwa’s name.
