The former National Resistance Army (NRA) fighter which facilitated the rise of the current National Resistance Movement (NRM) government into power Mzee Hajj Abdul Nadduli says he has held an engagement with the head of state Gen. Kaguta Museveni over the state of election outcome under which several losers are said to have been declared winning candidates at parliamentary and local government levels.
In an exclusive interview with this Website, Hajj Nadduli a retired Ugandan army Major confirmed that on Wednesday 4th , he requested president Museveni in their phone call engagement to take a keen interest into the reported patterns of electoral fraud that may pose serious impact on the country’s electoral democratic landscape, by acting on it with urgent deterrent measures.
“The president should re assess the personnel around him that he uses. They act with an old spirit that had been ended. Unless the top government officials pronounce themselves on that, our revolution is likely to fail”, He said.
According to Nadduli, several irregularities that played out during elections have been perpetrated by the state actors lacking the knowledge about their revolution whether they are soldiers or police personnel, saying they were working to fail it.
The presidential Advisor on Buganda region raised concerns with some military and police personnel captured in the circulating video recordings defending the suspected perpetrators of electoral mal practices such as stuffing pre-ticked ballots in the ballots at some polling stations during the presidential and local government elections.
He said it is high the Electoral Commission (EC) boss justice Simon Byabakama put on task to explain the reported public claims of his led Commission staff involving in alleged irregularities.
“When you’re brought as a judge you should act in the interest of justice and be neutral which is not the case. Losers are being declared winners”. The Minister for political mobilization stated.
In Mpunge Buikwe district, during the Wednesday February 4th local government elections, voters claimed in a recorded video that soldiers had invaded their polling station while in two speeding motorcars, instantly removed ballot boxes from the EC officials, started ticking and inserted them inside boxes before they could speed away, which sparked a protest which ended in destruction of the polling materials by the voters.
In Ssembabule district, some men wearing the UPDF uniforms were seen firing gunshots to disperse some individuals who were attempting to block stuffing of pre -ticked ballots in favor of one candidate, sparking concerns of electoral fraud and violence.
Now Mzee Nadduli said, such acts undermine their revolution if they go un checked.
