The National Peasants Party (NPP) presidential candidate Robert Kasibante is in trouble, after he has been dragged to Court for fleecing some Ugandan of their hard-earned money in the name of processing them paper work for employment abroad.
In his instituted Private Prosecution Criminal Case No. 435 of 2025 filed at Mmengo Chief Magistrate’s Court, Ssengendo Hamidu Bbaka accuse Kasibante of obtaining money by false pretense.
Court documents show that Kasibante, a resident of Kyengera Town Council Wakiso District, between 19th December 2019 and 30th April 2022, at Nateete Victory School of Beauty- Lubaga Catholic Cathedral parking and by Mobile Money holding out as an employee of office of Vice President, with an intent to defraud received UGX 9,200 000, from Bbaka for purpose work travel to Canada, which was false.
Bbaka insists that such action constitutes an offence of obtaining money by false pretense, contrary to sections 284 & 285 of the Penal Code Act, rendering him liable for a five-year imprisonment punishment.
According to Bbaka, efforts have been made to regain his money from Kasibante but in vain.
“All efforts to have my money refunded have fallen to deaf ears and indeed the accused was well intentioned to steal from me and defraud me”.
It is against the above that he requested Court to issue criminal summons against the NPP presidential candidate.
This matter has sparked concerns among some NPP leaders that it will dent their party image and reputation especially at this time of their final wrap of the tedious presidential campaign closing on Tuesday 13 January.
The Prosecution’s claim portraying the NPP presidential flag bearer as former personal assistant to the Vice President emeritus Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has resonance with the same from some opposition politicians and journalists pinning him to be a state agent.
By the time this news report was compiled we were not able to successfully have a comment from Kasibante given that he was on one of his campaign trails.
