United States of America (USA) Senate Foreign Relations Committee has condemned the January 15,2026 Uganda’s elections, describing them as a “hollow exercise” designed to extend President Yoweri Museveni’s four-decade rule. Kanyange Polling Station in Maganjo has this afternoon been invaded by face masked men who took over the ongoing polling activity and started meting out violence on Returning Officers (ROs) and other ordinary voters. During the invasion, one male RO was hit with a hard object on the mouth, leaving his teeth terribly shaking and damaged. Prominent human rights defender Dr. Sarah Bireete’s bail application has met a setback after being opposed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that there were insufficient grounds for her release, opening the window for her further remand at Luzira prison.
