As the cabinet and state minister’s term in office approached tail end following the renewed next government’s mandate through the January 2026 elections, efforts to identify possible replacements were also going on, Blazer News Times has exclusively learnt.

Notable figure’s names that came into consideration for the job according to the reliable sources in the corridors of power, was for the retired Chief Justice (CJ) Chigamoy Alfonse Owiny Dollo.

Reliable sources told this news Website that Nobert Mao had first been identified as preferred candidate for the leader of the government business’s job, but turned it down, saying his sole interest and experience was in the parliament speakership seat which has a lot to do with his legal background.

Mao’s tip off for the position according to insiders had stemmed from claims by some power brokers to some of the deep state members, that he may complicate the political succession math during its anticipated peak term should he be let to assume the parliamentary speakership seat.

That’s where the CJ emeritus Owiny Dollo’s name lately came into an equation, according to the sources.

Sources said that Dollo was recently reached out to accept the appointment but declined, reasoning that he was in his retirement, focusing on bolstering his private work including farming.

The immediate retired CJ had left office on 18th January 2026 after clocking the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.

Dollo hails from the same region of Northern Uganda with Mao and is considered to be one of Mao’s confidants and mentors. He is also a highly respected elder in an Acholi culture with the title of Ladit.

Sources say that Dollo’s consideration had aimed at balancing the next cabinet in case Mao’s speakership bid didn’t come to fruition.

The prime minister’s position was under the occupation of the Kakumiro District Woman MP Robinna Nabbanja during the previous dissolved cabinet.

The president is anticipated to name his new cabinet any time from now which has raised high the stakes amongst the lobbying old incoming guards.Email:editorial@blazernewstimes.com
